This year sees the 50th anniversary of the opening of the original ring of ten bells at Guildford Cathedral on 17th May 1965. This significant landmark in the history of the Cathedral is to be celebrated in several ways:
- On Saturday 16th May a peal of Stedman Cinques is to be attempted, the band comprising six current and six former Cathedral ringers;
- On Sunday 17th May special mention of the Anniversary will be made at the 9.45 Cathedral Eucharist; and in the afternoon there is be a tea party in the Refectory, to which all current and former Cathedral ringers and regular supporters of Cathedral ringing have been invited;
- There will be a display of photographs and archive material in the Cathedral over the weekend and in the Refectory for the tea party;
- The Cathedral ringers are making some improvements to the appearance of the ringing chamber: the walls have been painted, the somewhat unsightly but necessary acoustic panels are being covered by hessian, carpet tiles are being laid on the floor and some peal boards are being commissioned.
