Leatherhead District

Calendar Notes

District Practice – Everything from Rounds & Call Changes through to whatever we can sensibly manage. Typically well attended with plenty of ‘stand-behinders’. A chance to experience/hear some better ringing and meet up with members from across the District. The ‘traditional’ District Practice.

Relaxed Ringing & Lunch – These Monday/Friday morning sessions are similar to the above but have a different ‘feel’. We don’t go because we feel we ought to be there, we go because we want to enjoy our ringing together and the social get-together in the pub afterwards! Typically held at a tower just outside the District. A ‘one-tower mini-outing’ if you prefer.

Focus on 6 – These practices will aim to provide opportunities for six‐bell ringers that might not always be possible at their home tower. Intended for those who can generally manage plain hunt or above, we will aim to develop confidence in especially in five‐bell methods, ranging from exercises to improve rhythm, through to calling touches.

Stedman & Beyond -These practices are designed to stretch the more capable ringers in the District. On 8 bells we’ll aim for plain courses and touches of Stedman, Double Norwich, the standard 8 one-at-a-time & spliced, and perhaps beyond.  Where the practices are held at 10-bell towers we’ll aim for Plain Bob, Grandsire, Stedman, Little Bob, Kent, and hopefully Cambridge & Yorkshire Royal, depending on turn-out and ability.  If you are unsure if these practices are for you then please check with the District Master.

SC Squad Practice – These are focussed practices in preparation for the Guild inter-District Striking Competitions on 8 & 10 bells. As in the last 3 years the members of the 2020 Squad will be asked to make firm diary commitments to the practices. We adopt a team approach, driven by the goal of doing as well as we can in the competitions, while at the same time recognising that not all will necessarily be able to be selected to ring on the day.

District QP Day – First Saturday in October – Everyone is invited to participate, so it is not too early to start practising.  We will need to have names by the end of May so that we can organise towers and bands.
