Farnham District Striking Competition 23rd September 2023

The Farnham District Striking Competition took place on 23rd September at Pirbright. There were 7 teams in total, with ringing ranging from Call Changes to Cambridge Surprise Minor. The judges (Julian Morgan and Sally Schupke from the Guildford District) gave some useful feedback to all of the teams as well as some general pieces of advice for striking competitions.

The full results were:
1st: Crondall Cats (18 faults)
2nd: Frensham Method (24 faults)
3rd: Aldershot (38 faults)
4th: Frensham Call Changes (49 faults)
5th: Crondall Kittens (64 faults)
6th: Pirbright (93 faults)

There was a separate ‘scratch band’ made up of ringers from Farnborough, Frensham and Grayshott who scored 16 faults, but they were not eligible for the trophy as there were not 4 ringers from one tower.

It was particularly pleasing to see three teams that included at least one person who had learnt to ring in the last 12 months. Of these, the band from Aldershot finished in the highest place and was thus awarded the Master’s wooden trophy.

After the competition and some general ringing, a fish and chip supper was enjoyed by all, followed by an excellent quiz, run by Stu Aitken. A Crondall team romped home with another victory in the main quiz, while an Aldershot/Pirbright team won the bonus film poster challenge.

Many thanks to all who took part in such a wonderful afternoon, and thank you to the Pirbright band for hosting us.
