The new band at West Clandon enjoyed their first tower outing yesterday. Other novice ringers joined in from around the District for a day specifically planned for new ringers who had yet to ring on bells outside their own tower. A total of 24 people (12 novices and 12 trainers or ‘fillers’) squeezed into the ringing chambers at St Martin’s and Christ Church Epsom where they got plenty of practice at rounds and call changes before meeting for lunch at the Leg of Mutton & Cauliflower in Ashtead. Afterwards they moved up to St Giles, for more of the same. The unanimous verdict was “a brilliant day!” Thanks to all those who came along to help.
