The six-bell inter-district striking competition was won by Farnborough at Chobham this afternoon. The judges, Alistair Brown and Martin Willson from Romsey Abbey, said these were not easy bells and most bands had a bit of a struggle.
Their comments were, in summary:
Farnborough – 63 faults. Grandsire Doubles. Some inconsistent leading but a very good middle section.
Pirbright – 121 faults. Call changes. Struggled with odd-struckness. Improved towards end.
Ashtead – 127 faults. Bob Doubles. Improved, but seemed to tire towards the end.
Old Woking – 146 faults. Grandsire Doubles. Shaky start. One bell had problems. Good leading.
Newdigate – 260 faults. Grandsire Doubles. Pretty choppy but improved towards the end.
