Heritage Open Days 8 to 11 September 2016

The CCCBR have asked us to publicise the following announcement.  I am aware that many churches in the Diocese will be open but you might like to know that ringing is being specifically featured. The BBC have taken this up and are looking for ‘quirky features’ (such as ancient bell-ringers!) that they could film.  If anyone would like to know more, please contact me, Roger Tompsett, Guild PRO.

Announcement:

This year, Heritage Open Days and the Central Council of Church Bell Ringers (CCCBR) have joined forces to open up the heritage hidden inside England’s thousands of bell towers and bring to life the four-hundred year old tradition of English style bell ringing.

With a challenge to open up 500 bell towers for the public to explore, visitors will be able to see the bells, often locked away over our heads, discover our ringing forebears’ achievements recorded on peal boards, and, learn about bell ringing and have a go themselves. Team up with your local ringing band and open up your bell tower!
