We are sorry to announce the sad news that Pam Bird, a Vice-President of the Guild, died peacefully in her sleep at Winton House Nursing Home in Nether Wallop, Hants, on Monday 9th March aged 86.
Pam rang at Hersham for well over 60 years and is fondly remembered as a kind and helpful ringer, always willing to share her knowledge with others. She was highly respected in the Guild and held various offices in the Chertsey District in the 1970s and early 80s; she was successively Secretary, Treasurer, Master and Executive Committee Member, holding each post for two to three years. As part of these duties, she took on the not inconsiderable task of organising teas for Guild AGMs at a time when attendance was regularly up to 200 ringers.
Pam was elected as a Guild Vice-President in 1989. A brief biography of Pam can be found at http://guildfordguild.org.uk/biographies/pam-bird-guild-vice-president/.
