A special excursion to Bath has been arranged for 29th July, to raise money for a new Strike Back Against Blood Cancer charity which is being run entirely by ringers. It will be using a specially-chartered historic diesel-electric multiple unit train starting at Hastings and calling at Redhill and Reading Stations where passengers can join and leave the train.
There will be five hours to spend in Bath, where ringing has been arranged, before returning. The excursion will now also go on to Keynsham for the Avon Valley Railway, where there is a Vintage Transport Festival that weekend. So this will be of interest to railway buffs. Indeed the whole route has features of interest.
This is the first major fund-raiser for the new charity, which has the aim of ensuring that all the funds raised will go to charitable objectives, rather than being absorbed by administrative costs. On this excursion, even the train will be professionally driven by a ringer!
More information is given in this article recently published in the RW, and you can download a Ringers’ Booking form which has the detailed itinerary. The cost is £70 each, wherever you join.
