Information for teams 2015

Travel and parking

Oxford is well served by trains, especially from London, Birmingham and even Worcester. There are also two excellent coach services from London – the X90 and the Oxford Tube.

It may be worth trying the Osney Lane car park (open 7am – 7pm) which is £6 for a car and £10 for a mini bus. or City of Oxford College on Oxpens at £5 (8am to 5pm) Watch out for the early closing times though. Otherwise traffic and parking in the centre of Oxford is generally a nightmare. The roads near St Thos and the Station are particularly bad at the moment, but it should be fine before 10am. You can check for road works here , and Google Maps can give you live weight of traffic.

Here is a map marked with these car parks and the towers

Team registration

Registration for the teams drawn 1st to 6th will take place at St Thomas’, and you should head there first. All other teams should go to St Mary Magdalen to register; please register by midday at the very latest and before you visit any of the towers. All participants and supporters will be given a wristband which you should wear when visiting any of the towers. This will help our team of stewards to identify who is and isn’t a ringer. It’s really important that you wear your wristband to identify you as a ringer otherwise many of the colleges may treat you as a tourist and charge you an entrance fee!

The Contest

Teams should arrive at St Thomas’ in plenty of time for their Contest slot. Team photographs will be taken at the church 10 minutes before each team rings.

Tea, coffee and pastries will be available at St Mary Magdalen. Tea, coffee and cake will be available at St Aldate’s. Soft drinks and cake will be available on the field (see programme for times). There are many places to eat throughout Oxford, and our volunteers should be able to point you to somewhere convenient. We’re sorry that there will be no food available after the results as we could not find a suitable venue that would allow us to put on the catering.

Information point

If you need any information during the day then there will be people on hand to help you at St Mary Magdalen (1000-1200), Christ Church – Tom Tower (1200-1400) or St Aldate’s (1400-1700)
