Malcolm Loveday held the post of Bells Advisor to the Diocesan Advisory Committee from 1993 until his death at the end of 2025. In this role he worked within the DAC’s conservation and protection remit, while still enabling restoration projects to be completed to the satisfaction of both the Diocese and the ringers. His advice at the early stages of bell restoration proposals has been extremely helpful in allowing faculties for work to be issued with minimal difficulty in many cases.
I am pleased to announce that the Diocese has appointed Bill Hibbert from Dorking as Malcolm’s successor as bells advisor to the DAC. Bill also holds the position of DAC bells advisor to the Diocese of Southwark.
In summary, the DAC advises the Diocese on faculty matters, and effectively all technical matters. The DAC also advises parishes, who are encouraged to engage with the DAC early in the process of developing proposals.
Bill has much experience both from his role at Southwark, and also his extensive research in bell acoustics. Please contact Bill directly for early advice on bell related projects, he will be only too happy to assist you.
