RWNYC 2025 Birmingham

Over 300 young ringers from across the country were in Birmingham on Saturday 5th July for the Ringing World National Youth Contest 2025.

38 teams entered, and there were 5 competitions being held: Call Changes and Method ringing on both 6 and 8 bells, and a ’simple’ call change competition. The RWNYC is not just about the competition, but a wonderful celebration of youth ringing, an opportunity to ring at a series of towers throughout the day and to meet and mingle with many other young ringers

The Guildford Guild entered a team into the 6 bell call change competition, and were drawn to ring at Erdington, a short train ride from the city centre. The team did very well with some nice even striking. We then embarked on a set itinerary ringing at 3 other towers – St Martins in the Bullring and two towers in Moseley accessed by bus. The band also had a handbell session in the city centre.

The results were announced to a packed Church at St Martins in the Bullring, with standing room only for parents. Very well done to our young ringers who came 6th out of 12 entries in their class.

It really was a fantastic day. Our team was drawn from Frensham, Guildford Cathedral, and Aldershot, and we should be proud of their efforts, not just for the competition, but also for the whole day.
